Massey Ferguson is an international producer of agricultural machines and also the worldwide leading producer of tractors for the past 50 years. Tractors from many performance classes, combine harvesters, hay balers, products for garden and site care and also cultivators belong to the range of products that this company produce. However, the name Massey Ferguson most importantly stands for a long and prosperous tradition in agricultural technology, especially in the area of harvesting. The roots of the company go back to the year of 1847. Back then established as a workshop for agricultural machines near to Toronto, Canada, by the experienced farmer Daniel Massey, the company has now seen many expansions and developments. These developments can also be put down to 2 other people whose names still stand for Massey Ferguson today: Alanson Harris and Harry Ferguson. Initially, Daniel Massey’s son, Hart, who took over the workshop after the death of his father in 1856, and Alanson Harris, specialised themselves in the areas of production and shipping of agricultural machines in rival companies. Massey’s company aimed for- and still does today- a worldwide success, at first in export and then later in production. In 1981, the company merged with Harris’ workshop, which had been established in 1857, and expanded their production and took over further business locations in the whole of North America. Massey Ferguson reached its final form through the introduction of the businessman who was specialised in the improvement of tractors and who also became one of the company’s namesakes; Henry George Ferguson.

Ferguson joined the company in 1953. Shortly afterwards the company changed its name to Massey Ferguson. The Massey Ferguson brand stands for- even after the buy-out by the ARGO-Cooperation in 1994- the manufacturing of modern tractors and agricultural machinery. In this spirit the company are aware of their traditions and aim to create constant production techniques: Massey Ferguson tractors are mostly fitted with a stageless transmission. In this way the name guarantees that the correct speed can be found for each task whilst also completing a low amount of rotations.
